Five engagements, all built on the same work
Reading a property claim line by line and documenting what the file supports.
01
Five engagements, all built on the same work
Desk engagement
Nationwide
Typical turnaround [X] business days
A line-by-line comparison of the carrier’s estimate against the documented loss, the policy, and the applicable code. I work from the estimate, the declarations page, the photographs, the adjuster’s report, and any mitigation invoices.
You get a written findings memorandum tied to specific line items, and a corrected Xactimate estimate where the differences are large enough to warrant one.
02
Xactimate estimate preparation
Desk or field
Nationwide from documentation
Field scoping in Southern California
A complete estimate built from the ground up — sketch, scope, and pricing — using your photographs and measurements, or from my own field inspection where the loss is local.
Written to current price list data for the loss date and jurisdiction, with the assumptions stated rather than buried. An estimate that can’t explain its own quantities isn’t finished.
03
Supplement and revision support
Desk engagement
Nationwide
When the carrier’s revision comes back short, the question is usually which specific item was rejected and on what basis. I identify it, document the support for it, and prepare the supplement in a form the desk adjuster can act on.
Often the fastest route to movement on a file that has stalled without becoming a dispute.
04
Construction consulting and cause of loss
Field engagement
Southern California
Field scoping in Southern California
Constructability review, repairability versus replacement, code and ordinance upgrade requirements, and cause-of-loss determination where the question is what happened and what it will take to put it back.
Firms generally prefer to retain one party for both the cause and the number. This is the half that pairs with the estimating work.
05
Litigation damages support
Consulting or testifying
Engagement terms set at retention
Estimate and scope work prepared for a file headed to appraisal, mediation, or trial: exhibit-ready damages, a findings record that holds its shape under cross-examination, and assistance preparing questions for the carrier’s estimator.
Retention as a consulting expert keeps the work product privileged. That distinction should be settled at the start of the engagement, not partway through.
What a review engagement produces
The deliverable is a document you can hand to a carrier, an appraiser, or opposing counsel without translating it first.
Findings memorandum
Each finding tied to the line item, policy provision, or code section it rests on.
Quantity and pricing variances
Where against the carrier’s own figures.
Omitted scope identified
By trade and location.
Depreciation and O&P treatment
Reviewed against jurisdiction.
Scope of work and fee are confirmed in writing before any file is opened.
A corrected Xactimate estimate
Where the variance supports one.
A plain statement
Of what the documentation does not support.
Not sure which one you need?
Describe the file and I'll tell you which engagement fits, or that none of them do.
A review that won’t find anything is worth saying so before you pay for it.
